The Moon in December 2020
In December 2020 the Moon changes zodiac sign 14 times and passes through all 12 signs. It starts the month in Gemini on December 1 and ends it in Cancer on December 31. Counting the sign it occupies at noon UTC each day, it spends the most days in Cancer (6 days), Gemini (3 days) and Aquarius (3 days).
The main lunar phases this month are: Last Quarter on December 8 in Virgo, New Moon on December 14 in Sagittarius, First Quarter on December 21 in Aries and Full Moon on December 30 in Cancer.
For context: the Moon circles the zodiac in about 27.3 days, so it usually stays in one sign for roughly 2 to 2.5 days before moving on. Its phases follow the longer synodic month of about 29.5 days — the time from one new moon to the next — which is why each phase lands on a different date every month. All times here are UTC, so a sign change or phase near midnight may fall on the neighboring date in your time zone.
