Moon Calendar — May 2023
The Moon's zodiac sign for every day of May 2023, with sign-change times and all four phases — computed from real planetary positions. Times are UTC.
The Moon in May 2023
In May 2023 the Moon changes zodiac sign 14 times and passes through all 12 signs. It starts the month in Virgo on May 1 and ends it in Libra on May 31. Counting the sign it occupies at noon UTC each day, it spends the most days in Libra (5 days), Virgo (4 days) and Aries (3 days).
The main lunar phases this month are: Full Moon on May 5 in Scorpio, Last Quarter on May 12 in Aquarius, New Moon on May 19 in Taurus and First Quarter on May 27 in Virgo.
For context: the Moon circles the zodiac in about 27.3 days, so it usually stays in one sign for roughly 2 to 2.5 days before moving on. Its phases follow the longer synodic month of about 29.5 days — the time from one new moon to the next — which is why each phase lands on a different date every month. All times here are UTC, so a sign change or phase near midnight may fall on the neighboring date in your time zone.
