The Moon's zodiac sign for every day of December 2023, with sign-change times and all four phases — computed from real planetary positions. Times are UTC.
The Moon in December 2023
In December 2023 the Moon changes zodiac sign 14 times and passes through all 12 signs. It starts the month in Cancer on December 1 and ends it in Virgo on December 31. Counting the sign it occupies at noon UTC each day, it spends the most days in Leo (4 days), Virgo (4 days) and Cancer (3 days).
The main lunar phases this month are: Last Quarter on December 5 in Virgo, New Moon on December 12 in Sagittarius, First Quarter on December 19 in Pisces and Full Moon on December 27 in Cancer.
For context: the Moon circles the zodiac in about 27.3 days, so it usually stays in one sign for roughly 2 to 2.5 days before moving on. Its phases follow the longer synodic month of about 29.5 days — the time from one new moon to the next — which is why each phase lands on a different date every month. All times here are UTC, so a sign change or phase near midnight may fall on the neighboring date in your time zone.
