The Moon in December 2024
In December 2024 the Moon changes zodiac sign 13 times and passes through all 12 signs. It starts the month in Sagittarius on December 1 and ends it in Capricorn on December 31. Counting the sign it occupies at noon UTC each day, it spends the most days in Sagittarius (4 days), Capricorn (4 days) and Pisces (3 days).
The main lunar phases this month are: New Moon on December 1 in Sagittarius, First Quarter on December 8 in Pisces, Full Moon on December 15 in Gemini, Last Quarter on December 22 in Libra and New Moon on December 30 in Capricorn.
For context: the Moon circles the zodiac in about 27.3 days, so it usually stays in one sign for roughly 2 to 2.5 days before moving on. Its phases follow the longer synodic month of about 29.5 days — the time from one new moon to the next — which is why each phase lands on a different date every month. All times here are UTC, so a sign change or phase near midnight may fall on the neighboring date in your time zone.
