The Moon in May 2026
In May 2026 the Moon changes zodiac sign 13 times and passes through all 12 signs. It starts the month in Scorpio on May 1 and ends it in Sagittarius on May 31. Counting the sign it occupies at noon UTC each day, it spends the most days in Scorpio (5 days), Sagittarius (4 days) and Aquarius (3 days).
The main lunar phases this month are: Full Moon on May 1 in Scorpio, Last Quarter on May 9 in Aquarius, New Moon on May 16 in Taurus, First Quarter on May 23 in Virgo and Full Moon on May 31 in Sagittarius. With two full moons, May 2026 has what is popularly called a "Blue Moon" — the second full moon in a calendar month.
For context: the Moon circles the zodiac in about 27.3 days, so it usually stays in one sign for roughly 2 to 2.5 days before moving on. Its phases follow the longer synodic month of about 29.5 days — the time from one new moon to the next — which is why each phase lands on a different date every month. All times here are UTC, so a sign change or phase near midnight may fall on the neighboring date in your time zone.
